Your IP Infrastructure Company

Network System Integrator

Pathways, Conduits, Grounding, and Bonding

To maximize performance, your network needs to be effectively set up, structured, and organized. Alongside cable management tools like trays and baskets, conduits and pathways ensure electrical and data cables run cleanly and without causing visual or physical interruptions in your space. Grounding and bonding primarily protects cables from interference.

As a leading network systems integrator, Activo understands what is required and can build to industry standards, which are constantly evolving to keep pace with technological innovations. We work with industry-leading manufacturers like Chatsworth and BICSI to provide solutions that will future-proof your network.

Pathways (Conduits)

Used to route and run network cabling, conduits are the most commonly used type of pathway available. They can be either plastic or metallic and vary in size depending on the number or types of cables being used.

Other types of pathways include:

  • Cable trays or baskets
  • J-Hooks
  • Raceways

Network Cabling (Grounding and Bonding)

The need to ground screened or shielded network cabling is a matter primarily of performance, as a properly bonded and grounded system plays a crucial role in protecting data-carrying cables from external noise while minimizing emissions.

Pathways, Conduits, Grounding, and Bonding Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between grounding and bonding?

Grounding is done to provide a path for electrical currents to safely pass between a device and the earth (the ground) to prevent overheating, arcing, or explosion in the event of a surge or something like a lightning strike. Bonding is the permanent joining of metallic parts to create a continuous electrically conductive path.

What standards apply for grounding and bonding?

One overarching standard is TIA J-STD-607-A, which is designed to enable the planning, design, and installation of grounding and bonding systems for telecommunications purposes.

How do I choose the best cable management solution?

Conduits, raceways, baskets, and J-hooks all come in a variety of sizes to suit different numbers and thicknesses of wires. Baskets and J-hooks and typically used in areas where cable does not need to be hidden, while conduits and raceways tend to be more discrete.
