Your IP Infrastructure Company

Network System Integrator

Infrastructure Cabling

Infrastructure cabling is the backbone of your network, bringing components like structured cabling, data centres, and automated infrastructure management together as part of one unified system ready to power your network. We are increasingly expecting more from our networks, asking them to transmit data, voice, and video at higher quality and increased speeds.

Activo works to deliver solutions that meet your needs today while anticipating and preparing you for the changes and growth tomorrow will bring. As a network systems integrator, our focus is on ensuring your infrastructure cabling solution is part of the bigger picture and will work seamlessly with new and existing hardware, equipment, and applications to deliver reliable service. We manage projects of any size from coast to coast and provide complete lifecycle support—from assessment through design, implementation, and maintenance—that enables your cabling infrastructure to work behind the scenes so you can drive your organization forward.

What types of cabling are available?

Activo offers two types of cabling, copper (unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and shielded twisted pair (STP)) and fibre.

How do I choose between copper and fibre?

Copper cabling is the less expensive option, however it is slower. Fibre cabling on the other hand comes with a higher price tag, but it’s more reliable over longer distances and delivers faster speeds.

Keep in mind it is often beneficial to deploy a cabling infrastructure that uses a combination of copper and fibre, making it capable of supporting Ethernet or other protocols as required. In making your decision, be sure to consider all current requirements as well as future needs.

What is the importance of designing a future-forward structured cabling system?

It’s crucial that your structured cabling systems be designed with the future in mind since cabling will likely outlast the majority of the technologies they currently use and support including computers, servers, and network switches. Overhauling your cabling down the road can come with high price tags and impair your organization’s ability to accommodate changing technologies and growth.

What are signal and control cables?

Signal and control cables are flexible types of data cables used particularly in audio/visual and physical security applications.
